An Open Letter To My Constants.

Dear Constant(s),

First of all, thank you for existing! Thank you for being a part of my life. I know that no matter how many times I thank you, it would never be enough because I’m just so grateful to have someone like you in my life. You’re the person who has seen me at my best and at my worst, and stood by me inspite of it and I cannot tell you how much I love you for that! Thank you for every time you patiently heard me out when I was ranting about something that went wrong in my life- about how unfair life could be.

There were times when you had to sit down, crack my thick skull open, pour sense into me and seal it shut, because I was being so stupid. You made me understand how I was being a complete idiot, and went out of your way to make me feel better about myself by showering me with compliments- all this just to make me stop doubting my own abilities. When I thanked you, all you ever said was, “You would’ve done the same for me,” which is very true! I can’t believe you didn’t lose your cool even though I was being such a stubborn creature.

“There is nothing better than a friend, unless it is a friend with chocolate.”

-Linda Grayson

I love how you check in on me every once in a while even though you are busy with the things that are going on in your life. It’s amazing how we can approach each other when we need style hacks, or recipes, or quick-fixes, when Google is obviously the easiest way out. But who cares about Google when we have each other, right? Our conversations are full of “How do you think this looks on me?” or “You wouldn’t believe what happened today!” We talk about anything and everything, but never get tired of each other.

You drop everything and listen to whatever I have to say, patiently. You’ve been around for a fairly long time- long enough to know all the embarrassing details about me down to the size of my shoes! You know exactly what kind of food I prefer, the books I like to read, even the type of music I listen to. You laugh at my crazy dreams, but you support them anyway- if that doesn’t tell me how much you care about me, I don’t know what does.

“There are some things you can’t share without ending up liking each other, and knocking out a twelve-foot mountain troll is one of them.”

-J.K.Rowling, Harry Potter And The Sorcerer’s Stone

You rush to my help when I get into any kind of trouble. You stick by me even if I’m on the side that is losing- and turn the tables completely! I love how we can make fun of each other throughout the day. But God forbid someone else makes fun of either one of us, unless they want their marshmallows roasted out of them! We take the phrase partners-in-crime to a whole new level. You share my level of craziness. It doesn’t matter if you live far away, because you can detect the slightest change in my mood through my text messages, and that is amazing!

You are the only person in the world who gets all my stupid puns and jokes. You laugh at them even though they can get really bad sometimes. You aren’t afraid to tell me things the way they are. I need a person who can call a spade, a spade- and you do the job pretty well. It hurts me sometimes when you are brutally honest, but I know you just want the best for me. I might not see the reason right away, but when I see it, I understand why you did what you did.

“Friendship…is born at the moment when one man says to another, ‘What! You too? I thought no one but myself…'”

-C.S.Lewis, The Four Loves

For all this, and everything else, thank you! You have walked beside me through the light and the dark days and I don’t think I have told you how much I value that. You are so precious,  even though you think you don’t amount to much. But you do- so much, I would fight dragons for you! Let me tell you this- getting into someone’s inner trust circle isn’t an easy feat and I’m glad you’re in mine. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Thank you for all the times you have encouraged me to go ahead and take a risk, to follow my dreams no matter how crazy they initially sounded, to suck it up and ask that boy out because you couldn’t stand me being all moony-eyed over him. Every single time you have encouraged me to do something, I have tasted nothing but success. Maybe you are my lucky charm or something! It doesn’t take much. I don’t even have to say anything for you to understand, at times. Such connection is very rare!

“Silence makes the real conversations between friends. Not the saying, but the never needing to say that counts.”

-Margaret Lee Runbeck

I just want to tell you that I’m grateful that you’re a part of my life, part of this journey that I’m on, ever since we met. Everything you have done for me, without expecting anything in return- I can’t tell you how much it means to me. Thank you for standing by me. I hope this never changes.

All my love,

Someone who will stick around the way you have.

  1. I thought we were more than just friends until he gave me a birthday card yesterday saying ” You’re a constant in a world of change ” This is my b/f Did he get this card out of the friendship section? It says more, but not once does it have the word Love. We’ve been together for 2 years. We don’t say I Love you, because he don’t believe in saying it, but once in awhile he does.

    1. Girl, first of all, belated birthday wishes!❤️
Secondly, I’m so sorry he doesn’t say ‘I love you’ more often to you. But I guess the fact that he sees you as a constant in a world of change is his way of saying he loves you, you know? Men can get a little dumb sometimes. Don’t lose hope❤️✨
