It’s Alright If Things Ain’t Your Way.

So, it was just another lazy, unproductive day- nothing out of the ordinary. I was lying on my bed, scrolling through my Instagram feed when I came across this post that caught my attention. It said:

“One thing I like about Pixar films is how the happy ending isn’t always what you think it would be. The toys didn’t go with Andy to college, Gusteau’s restaurant gets closed down, Mike and Sully get kicked out of the university, Carl never gets Ellie to Paradise Falls. But they find out that what they wanted isn’t necessarily what they needed, and I really like the fact that kids get to learn that life doesn’t always turn out the way they dreamed of, and that’s okay.”

And it struck me how we spend our entire lives planning for a future that we don’t even know is possible. Sure, some aspects of it might actually happen, but it’s not always what we have planned down to the last detail. You might not always get the result you expected, but that’s completely alright!

I think that we miss out on a very major part of the present because we either spend too much time brooding over the past, or fretting over a very uncertain future. And even if something doesn’t go the way you had planned, don’t be too disappointed. Chances are, there is something much better in store for you.

Not everything goes as per your plan, honey. Every other second, every other breath is so unpredictable, you might as well learn to value what you have right now, no matter how much more you want.

“Anything can happen in the blink of an eye. Anything at all. One. Two. Three. Blink.”              -Meg Cabot, Abandon.

We need to realize how important loosening the reigns to our own life is. I’m not asking you to give up control on your life. You just need to let things run their course sometimes, instead of letting the inner control-freak in you try to channel that course. Sometimes, it is better to just live in the present than to worry about what is going to happen next.

Also remember that your present actions are the ones that will shape your future. My point here is that, even if things go wrong, unexpected, way different than what you had planned- DON’T PANIC. It’s not the end of the world. Maybe it’s just a subtle sign that the time for whatever you had planned isn’t right.

Good things take time. You will get what you wanted. Learn to wait for them, because in the end, they’ll always be worth the wait. So live in the now, rather than worrying about the future- while keeping in mind that whatever you do today is going to shape your tomorrow. Of course it doesn’t mean you should stop having fun- life is short and you most definitely should have fun. Just remember to maintain a balance.

If things don’t go the way you had expected, don’t worry too much about it. It’s okay. Sometimes, happy endings aren’t what we think we want. They’re even better, and that’s when we realize that it was what we needed all along.

Cheerio! Xx

  1. This is really nice. So many times, we just keep on worrying about the ‘tomorrow’ without noticing that we actually just waste the precious moments of today!
