I’m writing this to you in the hopes that I might start looking at myself in a different light, too. You see, I’ve just had a very bad day and I spent a lot of time worried because I didn’t feel good about the way I looked today. I know you can understand what I’ve been through.
You’re right to doubt me. Because, how can a person who is still going through days where she hates herself teach you anything about loving yourself? But don’t worry about that because these are some things that my Mom tells me every time I have a bad day. And you know what they say about mothers— they’re never wrong.
Today, when I looked into the mirror, I saw an ugly person staring back at me. Mom kept telling me that I looked beautiful, but I brushed all of it aside because she’s my Mom and I felt like she’s supposed to tell me that, all because she loves me. The truth is that I couldn’t appreciate myself enough because today was one of the bad days where the monster named Insecurity was raring at me.
Does that sound familiar to you? Of course, it does.
I so badly want to give you a hug and tell you that you’re beautiful, just the way you are. I wouldn’t change a thing about you because what makes you so uniquely you is the little quirks that you have yet to embrace about yourself. Just look at yourself in the mirror and smile. Do this until you have nothing to hate about your appearance anymore. I can assure you that this is 100% Mom-approved.
And I wish I could tell you that there will never be bad days again, but I can’t. All I can tell you is that every battle gets easier. You’ll get to a point where you love yourself for who you are because there’s only one of you, how amazing is that by the way?
Whatever happens, remember that you’re amazing. Sure, you might not feel like it sometimes. But you are!
Sending hugs Xx
