5 Struggles ALL Long-Distance Besties Can Relate To.

They say you should ‘write what you know‘, and who knows long-distance friendships better than I do? I have told you all you need to know about the bright side of long-distance friendships and relationships. So here is something you can probably relate to if your friends live in a different city or country.

I can tell you that a long-distance friendship or relationship of any kind is definitely not for the impatient or the weak-hearted. It is a real commitment that needs to be worked on like a real job if at all you want it to work. So, if you’re a commitment-phobe, stay away from people in general because nobody deserves to be left hanging.

1. Your phone’s gallery is filled with their photos and screenshots from video calls with them.
Since you can’t physically be together to have fun, you’re almost always on your phone updating them with selfies, saving all of their selfies (for emergencies), taking screenshots of fun video calls just for the memories or something similar. There might not be enough photos of you together, but that doesn’t make your friendship any less stronger.

2. You hate not being able to give them a hug when they really need or deserve it.
A special occasion or a really bad day. Whatever the reason, sometimes, you just need a hug from your best friend to make you feel a hundred times better. You don’t get that too often in long-distance friendships and it’s, no doubt, one of the hardest parts of being long-distance besties.

3. You have to plan at least a month ahead if you want to catch up in person.
Different places, different schedules. You obviously want the perfect day planned because you hardly meet each other in person. You cancel all plans anywhere near the day you’re going to meet your friend. So you go over and over the plan until you’re finally going to meet.  And every bit of the planning is worth it, I promise!

4. Once you do meet, there is SO MUCH to catch up on!
It’s already so easy to lose track of time when you’re with your favourite person in the world. It only gets a lot more interesting when you’re catching up on what’s going on with each other in person, you spend hours just talking and laughing about anything and everything under the sun. It still doesn’t feel enough.

5. Some days can really suck when they aren’t around.
No matter how recently you met,  you’ll have days when everything just feels like a pile of meh and all you’ll want is your best friend. But since they’re far away, there’s nothing you can really do about it, and you don’t want to sound clingy or selfish either. So you just keep it to yourself or sleep it off because the day pretty much sucks without having your best friend around.

To all the long-distance besties out there, I feel you. Honestly, I didn’t know what a beautiful bond this can be until I found friends who live far away and it’s pretty much one of the best things to have happened to me. Although a few days can be hard, you’ll always know that your bestie loves you as much as you love them.

Warm hugs and Cheerio! Xx
