Day 20: Where Do I Go From Here?

When you’ve graduated and you’re kind of between jobs because you want to make sure that you don’t get yourself into something that’s just a waste of your time, you’re going to be hit with a lot of ‘What have you planned next?’ and ‘What are going to pursue next?’ Questions that you don’t have the answers to. Questions that you don’t owe anybody the answers to. Questions that make you wonder if you’re on the right track.

In the past few days, I have been asked these questions so many times, it had me worrying for a hot second that I was doing this whole life thing wrong. The world outside is harsh and entitled. People will ask you difficult questions and give you their unsolicited and unnecessary opinions to make you feel like you’re not doing well enough. But this is where we take a stand. If we know our truth, nobody can make us feel like we’re doing everything wrong.

Which leads me back to where exactly I am going with my life. Honestly? I have a clue, but I don’t have it 100% mapped out. That does not make me directionless‘ or any less ‘ambitious. The world is nothing like it used to be, say, 30 or even 20 years back. We have a lot more options and opportunities than any of our elders did. So it’s only natural that we explore a little bit before we decide to walk through that one door that sparks joy in us.

A few days ago, my Dad sent me a post that, and I’m paraphrasing, that it’s never too late to begin or start over. And I agree! I have the luxury of time to figure things out as I go, and I still have a major part of the next 10 years figured out. No offense to anybody, but I don’t owe anybody any kind of explanations about where I am right now and where I want to go from here.

I have a message for everybody who’s reading this, everybody who feels like they aren’t going anywhere just because the world makes you second-guess yourself. You most certainly are not lost or clueless. You’re just trying to find a way out in a world where almost everything has already been done. Originality doesn’t come easy and these are hard times to be an original. But you’ll find a way, okay? Don’t let anybody tell you otherwise.

Because the only person who needs to faith in you is yourself. It can be annoyingly hard sometimes, but don’t let that discourage you. Don’t let that force you to choose a path and stick to it. Life is too short for you to be stuck doing something you don’t like. So, tomorrow, if you feel like you don’t want to be doing something you have no interest in, don’t do it! Do something that you actually like.

You’re not lost, lazy or worthless. You’re just trying to figure out a way to leave a mark on this world; I don’t know about you, but that sounds pretty ambitious to me. Anyone who says otherwise needs to be minding their own business because you don’t owe them that answer.

Cheerio! Xx
