The Only Question You Should Ask Yourself.

We all have this idea of the kind of person that we all want to grow up to be someday. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a role model because who we are ca be determined by a lot of different factors like what we watch, the kind of people we’re associated with, the kind of music we listen to— basically, a list of  your likes and dislikes can do a fairly adequate job of painting your character sketch on paper.

But, we’re also so much more than just all of that, as in, we’re also our thoughts. That includes what we think of ourselves. And remember this, you may have an entire Universe of talent crammed inside you, but you can only ever be as good as you think you can be. Up until a year ago, I never thought I was good at what I do because I didn’t love myself enough to believe in myself. But I’m working on it, and I can promise you that the change just shows in my work.

I’ve come across so many talented people who deserve all the love and appreciation in this world, but for some reason, they don’t think so. And the reason is that they all are struggling to love and accept themselves for who they are. It is, by no means, a bad thing to do. But I truly believe that they’d be shooting for the stars by now if they loved themselves a little more. That being said, I know the struggle because I’ve been through it and I have immense respect for people who are actively making an effort to love themselves more.

A few months ago, I decided to own and actually work towards being the kind of person I saw myself as in my head. Every time I had a doubt, I would ask myself “What would the ideal me do?” and the answer would come to me. Asking myself this one question has ensured that I don’t stray away from where I’m headed in life, and I think that’s it’s worth a go if you ever find yourself in some sort of dilemma.

It’s funny because earlier when I gave myself pep-talks, I would use the name of the person I idolize, but I quickly understood that I only idolize the idea of the person that I have in my head because I don’t really know anything about them in reality. And who better can understand the workings of your brain like your own self? Because at the end of the day, no matter who you run to for a piece of advice, you always end up going with your gut because you know yourself the best.

Our minds are powerful. Whether we know it or not, on some level, we already know how to work towards our goals and how to achieve them. You already know your way around this problem you think you’re unable to overcome; you just have to believe that you do. Take a deep breath and think hard about what you’d do if you were the most ideal version of yourself and I promise you, you’ll find the answer to your question.

Worth giving it a shot, isn’t it?
