We All Need Love.

I randomly joked about my blog posts getting a lot of traffic whenever I wrote about love, and then it hit me: most people who cringe at the mere mention of ‘love’ are the same ones who crave love in some way but don’t always know where to look. And naturally, it got me thinking if we’re all just closeted romantics, too scared to say anything because we’ve been hurt too much in the past.

The fact that my blog posts get no love when I write on random topics, but get SO MUCH TRAFFIC when I write about love, tells me that my audience is full of SAPPY PEOPLE.

It’s true that we don’t need romantic love in our lives. It’s not a necessity, rather, it’s just a wonderful bonus if you get to spend your life with your best friend. But it’s also true that we all need love to get by in this big, bad and horribly cruel world. It doesn’t matter where it comes from: your friends, your family, your pets; love is love. That doesn’t change, no matter what other perspectives we try to look at it from.

I don’t know about you, but I cannot imagine any kind of life thriving in this world without love. Especially today, in a world where everybody seems to be hell-bent on trying to tear people others down, simply to get a headstart on their way to the top. Things are bad enough, but they suck a little less when we have somebody who loves us endlessly to go it with. I would have never made it this far if it wasn’t for the love and support that my friends and family have poured on me.

Without love, we’d have nobody to share our happiness with. And although I’m sure it seems like a perfectly lovely concept to a lot of people, being left out in the cold isn’t something anybody wants, no matter how much they say they’d prefer it. We all look for love in places where there often isn’t and then wonder why there is so little of it left in this world. How about we start with the fact that there is more than one kind of love?

If anything, love begins with the simplest of things that we do for ourselves. Saying yes more often to things we want and saying no to things that we’re better off without, for example. We’re automatically more loving when we start showing ourselves the kindness that we know we deserve, and as a result, we are also more loving when it comes to the people in our lives. Love is contagious and it’s pretty damn beautiful.

And you’re all saps, whether you want to believe it or not.
