Have you ever had these moments where you end up surprising yourself with everything that you are capable of? Moments where you’re genuinely impressed because you learn to look at yourself in a very new light. It really is one of the most eye-opening things out there.
We go about our lives trying to evolve and become better than we were yesterday. That instinct is only natural. It is the law. It is something that has been embedded into our very being, because without the need to evolve, we wouldn’t be where we are today, both individually and as a human race.
So, if you know how far you’ve come and you also know that you’re constantly evolving, would it kill you to acknowledge the fact that you are, indeed, an amazing person? There has to be something that you’re good at, whether you know it or not. We are all designed to have certain strengths and weaknesses. It is important for us to know what exactly we’re good at, because who knows you better than yourself, anyway?
When I look back at certain artworks I’ve made, I can barely even remember making them because I honestly have no sense of anything when I immerse myself in my art. I am surprised at how much I end up underestimating myself most of the time. That’s when I realized how badly we all need to start being kinder to ourselves.
I get how hard it can be to appreciate yourself in a world of infinite options and possibilities because there always seems to be something that is way better. But if it’s any consolation, not everybody can do what you can, and more often than not, things aren’t always as they seem on the outside. So what seems like shiny gold from a distance could just be sand. The grass always seems greener on the other side, remember that.
So, the next time you find yourself doubting your abilities, remember that you’ve probably jumped hurdles higher than this one. Things always seem impossible until they’re finally done. The more you run from it, the harder it will seem. Try putting on a brave face and actually taking the plunge, for once, why don’t you?
It might not always go the way you wanted it to, but who knows? It may end up being a lot better than you had planned for it to be. But one thing is for certain: you won’t know unless you actually go for it. You’ve probably done this before, so how hard can it be, right?
