I spent the entire day working on something special for somebody and it made me think about how we put our love into the most random things and in the most curious ways. It’s a really endearing thing, if you think about it. I don’t know about you all, but if somebody I know remembered the most random and insignificant detail about me that I don’t even remember sharing with them, I would be pretty touched because it shows that they really care enough to pay attention to those seemingly insignificant things.
The other day, my best friend made a batch of sugar cookies and I asked her to share the photos with me, and she sent me one specific cookie that she had decorated to resemble a peony, which happens to be my favourite flower because of the meaning it holds. I don’t even remember when I told her that I like peonies and I was just really surprised and emotional that she even paid attention to that detail. I mean, I guess it’s important to us, given that we’re best friends and we only want to do the best for each other, but it was a really sweet moment, nevertheless.
When you really think about it, we put our love into the most random things. I know for a fact that my Mom puts a lot of love into her cooking. She knows exactly what to do to cheer us up on a bad day. Dad shows his love by spoiling us a lot more than we deserve sometimes. My brother shows his own, unique way of love by calling me silly names or by pulling my cheeks. All of that, among the million other things. And frankly speaking, I don’t think I would trade all of that for anything else.
Some of us choose to show our love by putting it into words, whether it’s in a letter, a poem, or even a song. Some of us paint pictures. Some of us are pretty vocal about it. And there are just about countless other things that we would do for the people we love that I cannot even begin to list because we all show our love in such different ways. It makes me think about how, in a world filled with such morbid things, we are all still capable of love, whether it’s giving or receiving it.
I’ve also noticed that when you put your entire heart and soul into something, when you do it out of love and not out of responsibility, it really shows. You can tell that a lot of love has been put into something just by looking at it. That is not to say that things done out of a sense of responsibility do not turn out well; just that things done out of love have a certain glow about them. That is a fact that none of us can deny because, time and time again, we have seen how things done out of love turn out.
If you ask me, I think it’s one of the most beautiful things in the world that we just do things out of love for the people we care about. Even if we don’t really say that we’re doing it out of love. It’s just one of those things that you don’t need to say.
Because, at the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter what kind of love we have for the people we choose to keep in our lives. Whether it’s romantic or platonic, it doesn’t make a difference because it’s all love. It really is that simple. We’re all just curious creatures who show our love in the most curious of ways, and I am here for it.
