One Step More.

There are a couple of things I realized today.

And one of them is something that, no matter how many times I remind myself, I keep forgetting.  I have to tell myself that I am way more capable than I think, and I don’t have any excuses for it. These are just the kind of things that we need to remind ourselves every single day and every step of the way. I don’t know why we need frequent reminders that we are, in fact, good enough, but I know that a lot of it has to do with the need to do and be better than we were yesterday.

While this, in itself, isn’t a bad thing at all, it is something that we expect too much out of ourselves, and that could be a problem! Learning is constant and we end up something new every single day, whether we know it or not. But learning takes time and practicing what we have learnt and to put them into action. People think these are things that go hand in hand, but the change is subtle and it takes time. You can barely even see it happening. Which is why it is important to be kinder to yourself every day. Even and especially on the days when everything seems to be going downhill.

The second thing I realized today that it does, indeed, feel amazing to have your progress be appreciated and validated by the people in your lives and that it is not stupid to want that validation for yourself. Yes, you can appreciate how far you’ve come and how well you’ve done for yourself, but it is only human to want that appreciation to come from a place that isn’t you. It is nice to have some assurance that we have made some progress on whatever we were working on.

And it is important to remind yourselves about these things everyday. It is so easy to get swept away with whatever the world brings us, a little self-love seems pretty insignificant in the face of it all. But it holds just as significant as everything else in our lives. We cannot control what the world thinks of our merits, but we can control how we treat ourselves for them. We can control how we look at ourselves, even if it is the hardest thing we’ll have to do. And that is okay.

We just need to take things one step at a time.

You’ve got this. Xx
