Rewrite.

I’m in the middle of reading a story where the protagonist falls in love over a long period of time, and wishes he had more time with his beloved. The story really refused to leave my head all day, and I decided to channel it in poetry. This poem has been written, loosely from the perspective of the protagonist of the story. You don’t have to read the story itself to understand the poem, however.

This is probably one of my better poems, and I am so happy with how it turned out. I hope you like it too.

Happy reading! Xx

I’d go back,
Rewrite
Every verse I’ve written,
I’d rewrite them all
To sing of you,
If I could go back,
I’d find you sooner,
Find my way into your arms,
Into your heart,
Find my way to you.

I’d go back,
Rewrite
Our stars to cross paths,
Rewrite our fates
To intertwine,
If I could go back,
I’d still pick you,
Choose you for me–
My name on your soul,
And yours on mine.

I’d go back,
Rewrite
Every letter unsent,
I’d seal them with love
For you to read,
If I could go back,
I’d want differently,
But I know I’d want you,
Forever,
I’d want you all to me.

I’d go back,
Rewrite
Every moment of your pain,
I’d rewrite them for you
To shoulder them with me,
If I could go back,
I’d paint your past
In brighter colours,
With happy memories,
Filled with never-ending peace.

I’d go back,
Rewrite
Our stories a hundred times,
I’d rewrite them
Just to love you a little more,
If I could go back,
I’d still pick you,
Your soul tethered to mine,
Tied by fate,
For all the centuries to come.
