Let me tell you this, I’m a hopeless romantic,
And I’ve heard some crazy things
About people in love.
‘Soulmates’, if you will.
As insane as they are to everybody else,
You’ll see why I think they make sense.
You see, I’m holding you to
That promise you made.
You said that you’d hear me out
No matter how bizarre my words were.
So, here are the most ridiculously fascinating things
About all the magic behind ‘soulmates’.
Perhaps we should begin from the moment
This universe began.
I’ve heard legends about Zeus–
About his first human with four arms and legs.
Maybe he was so threatened by its power
He split it in two, left searching for the other half.
It could get more scientific than that.
They say things began with chaos and explosion.
Could it be possible that atoms were rudely shoved apart?
Perhaps they lost each other in Chaos.
‘Soulmates’ could just be atoms
Drawn back to each other.
Do you, too, hear the mellow voice
Inside your head?
Alien thoughts that don’t belong to you,
Whispering, encouraging, comforting, randomly singing.
Aren’t you curious whose it could be,
A voice that has grown on you?
In the end, there’s no theory, no story, no legend
Good enough to explain love.
Why, neither crop circles nor aliens, nor oceanic depths
Happen to fascinate humankind to this extent–
The extent to which two souls drawn to each other do.
I guess love really does make the world go round.
