#NaPoWriMo Day 21: Dreary Greys.

The prompt for day 21 via napowrimo.net is to pick any colour and write a poem about it. I took a little bit of inspiration from the mango showers lately; things have been grey and cold for the last few days, which I love. Then again, grey in general is a very lifeless colour (in my personal opinion, no offense to anyone who likes grey). I decided to roll with it because what better inspiration can there be?

It’s also a direct reflection of how my life feels when I am out-of-touch with any kind of art. I am a creative person by nature, and unless I am surrounded by art, I don’t see the point of anything. After twenty one days of writing regularly, after a year-long break, I have realized how much calmer this has actually made me because suddenly I have this outlet for my emotions along with all the other forms of art I practice.

Anyway, without further ado, here’s the poem for today! I hope you like it.
Happy reading! Xx

My world a canvas, once shining bright,
Vibrant hues filled my sight,
What once used to be sun-kissed yellows,
Emerald greens, and swan whites,
Have all turned into somber greys,
There no longer is a light.

Mist-washed, a faded dream,
A muted world full of silent screams,
The colours have all bled out,
As silent as the darkest night,
Covered in a shroud of endless grey,
Lifeless in an unending fight.

The laughter’s echos, once ringing,
Now seem weaker, at their end,
Like a music note, born just barely,
The sunrise washed out and pale,
No warmth to touch there,
No light to share.

Is this to be my lens to the world?
Faded and blurred into dreary greys?
Where has the colour bled out?
I search for just a spark,
A flicker just bright enough,
I don’t want the greys, I want anything but.

Oh to have just a splash of colour,
A stroke of paint to paint
My world in colours all too bold,
How I yearn for a new dawn,
A new hue to save me
From the dreadful greys, harsh and cold.
