Is There Too Much On Our Plates?

I want to talk about a common issue that many people face these days– taking on too much.

No, this isn’t about me. Personally, I have been fortunate enough to figure out where I need to focus my energy in a short amount of time. However, I have seen many people around me trying to accomplish too many things at once, often resulting in exhaustion and burnout. It’s important to remember that while we should aim to experience everything life has to offer, we must also prioritize our goals and ensure we don’t stretch ourselves too thin.

Of course, trying to upskill and become a well-rounded person isn’t exactly a bad thing, but some people don’t really have the luxury of switching lanes whenever they want in life.

In fact, it is more important for people now to excel at more than just one avenue in life. And considering how little we can actually give to our quality of life over work these days, I find it ridiculous. that one is even expected to live up to such ideals. I guess that is one explanation for people sending their kids off to school at the age of 3 these days.

Take it from someone who has just found the energy to start writing on her blog again, there is such a thing as ‘too much’ sometimes. I wouldn’t call myself a failure for not being able to focus on every kind of art that I want to excel at.

I started working and I barely had any time left to write or make art anymore. The truth is that most often, art bleeds into another form. Sure, I stopped writing for myself, but I didn’t stop making other forms of art, whether it was sketching or crochet. Things that you are good at always find their way back to you, and you start building a world around you where everything you love perfectly fits like pieces of a jig-saw puzzle.

And no, it cannot be achieved by taking way too much on our plate. I have no advice on time management. I’ll admit, it took me ages to figure out how to log off of work on time and detach myself from it at the end of each day. I am no longer that person and I find plenty of time to make art, which I couldn’t be happier about.

Maybe, the secret to always having just the right amount on your plate to avoid burning out is to just know when you’ve reached your limit. There is so much potential in each one of us. But if we’re too tired to even consider exploring it, I don’t think it’ll be of any use to anyone. At the end of the day, we need to put ourselves first where it matters.

So just don’t be so hard on yourself, maybe? You’ll find your way back to the things you love doing, eventually. Trust me, it never really leaves you.

Until next time!
