#NaPoWriMo Day 5: Dream Aria.

Let me tell you a story
About a land so distant, far away,

Nestled beyond the stars and sea,
Behind a door in an illusory hallway.
It came to me as though a dream
On a warm, dozy summer day,
The corridor never-ending,
Pillars appearing, every step you take.

I stood there, enchanted,
The haunting aria echoed,

As if mourning a world that ended–
Who knows what tragedy struck?
It sounded like only melancholy would.
Play like you’re about to start crying,
It said to me, or so it seemed…
If only I had known this was the beginning.

I walked toward the door,
The clouds lay below, swirling,

And I, no closer than I was before
To the voice that continued serenading,
As though calling me forth,
Lamenting, warning, inviting,
The moonlight illuminating my path–
I stood there, enthralled, hearing the voice sing.

Today’s prompt via napowrimo.net was to pick three terms from the options provided on this post, and write a poem incorporating them. The terms I picked from the poem were: ‘play like you’re about to start crying’, ‘aria’, and ‘moonlight’.

And before you ask me, YES! The title of the poem is the same as the song that plays on the loading screen of Genshin Impact. If you aren’t familiar with it, you are now. I am a huge fan of Genshin Impact, and because of my love for music, I am also a huge fan of the soundtrack and the score in the game. If you’re curious, here’s the track that I have chosen to write about today:

If you want to read my poem once again, with the track actually playing in the background, I’ll understand. In fact, I would highly encourage it! As an admirer of music, I think this is one of the reasons I enjoy playing the game so much.

I won’t get into the lore because frankly, I don’t want to ruin the game for those who plan to play it. But also because I know nobody cares about my geeky interests enough to stick around and read about me dissecting the lore of a video game. I think people who are interested in knowing the lore would just text me instead because they know I never shut up about it.

Anyway, even though I didn’t write a poem as long as my usual work, I think this was enough. It was fitting. Once again, I have surprised myself by knowing what I would be writing about as soon as I saw the prompt. It’s like some haze has lifted and my thoughts are clear. I am able to visualize exactly what I want to write about, these days, which is a welcome change because it used to take me ages to feel connected to any prompt that we were being given.

Am I taking my time writing the poems? Yes. But I am having so much fun with the direction the NaPoWriMo challenge is taking me, this year.

Hope you liked the poem!
