The dawn of time,
The first human,
The song of the sea precedes it all,
Tides crashing on shores,
And a wind that roars in harmony,
As crying seagulls call.
I recall a song that went–
“Wise men once said,
‘Wild winds bring death to the candle,’”
And there I stand,
Toes buried in sand,
Until the roaring wind becomes too much to handle.
And I wonder how the salt in the air–
Synonymous with the splashing sea–
Changes on a whim so constantly,
Like an indecisive version of me,
But welcomes into its loving arms
Any soul that walks onto that beach.
I’d stand there forever,
The waters crashing over me,
Watching the wind caught in a dance with the sea–
What could be more eternal, I wonder,
And find there’s no answer to give,
There’s only me, and the song of the wind and the sea.

Today’s prompt via napowrimo.net was to write a poem that incorporates a song lyric, and also talks about music being made. What’s a better duet to write about than the one we hear by the sea?
The song lyric I chose for the day was “Wise men once said, ‘Wild winds bring death to the candle'” from ‘The Albatross’ by Taylor Swift. If you haven’t heard the song before, here it is:
I know I am horribly late today, but at least I put in an effort. It’s all that counts, right? But I do see a pattern in the prompts for this year. They’re all inspired by music and art, and that’s the best thing I can think of to derive inspiration from. Now, more than ever, art needs to be recognized and appreciated, and I am glad that we’re being given this wonderful opportunity to do it in our own way.
I hope I can do a better job of writing tomorrow. See you then?
Yours truly,
The Shubhster.
If you like my poem, please do leave a comment or follow my blog! I write a lot of random but interesting stuff, and I try to keep it real. I’d love it if you went ahead and checked out more of my work, while you’re still here. If you think someone you know would appreciate the things I write, feel free to share my page with them! You can also reach out to me on my Twitter or Instagram handles. I always appreciate seeing new people come up to me and tell me they like what I write! It doesn’t happen as often as I would like for it to, but let’s change that, maybe?
This has been day 24 of 30!
See you tomorrow?
Cheerio! Xx
