For the first time in forever, the voices in my head don’t seem as loud–
We stand there, shoulder-to-shoulder,
In the middle of a cheering crowd.
Words could never capture the exhilaration, or the raw emotion of those roaring refrains,
Every song is sung out of tune but held together in cohesion by only the singer; the crowd goes wild, demanding, ‘Do that once again!’
I’m here with my friend, I’m here with my brother, I’m here with a thousand strangers I’ve never met, and a few others–
And we’re all here for one artist,
Just the one.
And he shines, and glows, and sets fire to the stage like the sun.
Every verse
So well rehearsed,
You’d almost think it was a part of his soul,
But if you’ve written verses like I have, you’d know– art like that etches itself deep, and never lets go.
It’s surreal,
It’s loud,
The energy flows,
What is it, if not another poem, just appreciated better– by one, by all?
It’s magic, it’s hypnotic, it’s performance, it’s art;
It’s everything I’ve convinced myself I am not.
But tomorrow, or far in the future, someday, should you see me reading my poetry on some unknown stage, I hope it’ll still be met, at least with an applause, if not the roaring refrains.

Today’s prompt via napowrimo.net asked us to write a poem recounting an experience at a live concert and relating it to the act of writing a poem. The only concert I’ve ever been to so far has been Ed Sheeran’s, so here’s a poem about that! If you want to see my posts from the time I went to that concert, you can find them here and here. I had the best time of my life there. What a day, that was!
I’ll say this about being at an Ed Sheeran concert: it’s like he makes music out of seemingly nothing. It’s just the artist up there on the stage, with his guitar and a loop pedal, and his voice. And the hold he has over the massive crowd is truly commendable. There are no fancy fireworks or light displays or overly choreographed theatrics. But the raw authenticity of it all, seeing him up there shredding on his guitar, having thousands of eyes trained only on him, that’s a whole other level of artistry in itself. My best friend, and my brother, both accompanied me to the concert. We were exhausted at the end of the night, and we were sore all over next morning because of all the screaming and singing and dancing. But we would never trade that experience, for a million years, for anything else. It was our ‘you just had to be there’ moment.
Once again, I see we have a prompt related to music and poetry. I see the pattern, I truly do. I don’t know what the endgame goal of any of it is, this NaPoWriMo season, but I am enjoying every bit of it! Art of any kind is my favourite thing to write about, and it has given me so much freedom to express myself and has shaped me into who I am today. Art is truly one of the best things that life has to offer, and I can’t help but feel sad for anyone who doesn’t know or understand what it is like to hone their skills and feel inspired by something, not because it’s a trend on social media, but because it’s just so moving to see something and feel the urge to create something of your own, from scratch.
That being said, we only have five days left for this NaPoWriMo season to close, which seems unreal. I don’t know where the days went, but it has been such a rush, writing here again. I don’t know how long I can keep up my writing streak on the blog, but I hope I don’t take an extra long break from it, like I did last year.
See you tomorrow with a brand new poem, then?
Yours truly,
The Shubhster.
If you like my poem, please do leave a comment or follow my blog! I write a lot of random but interesting stuff, and I try to keep it real. I’d love it if you went ahead and checked out more of my work, while you’re still here. If you think someone you know would appreciate the things I write, feel free to share my page with them! You can also reach out to me on my Twitter or Instagram handles. I always appreciate seeing new people come up to me and tell me they like what I write! It doesn’t happen as often as I would like for it to, but let’s change that, maybe?
This has been day 25 of 30!
See you tomorrow?
Cheerio! Xx
