#NaPoWriMo Day 28: Wherefore Art Thou, Beloved Muse?

No music sounds as sweet, today,
No colour too bright or appealing,
I’ve spent an entire day,
Searching far and wide,
To carve a solid form for my twisted feelings.

No skies too bright,
Not a single cloud in the sky,
Nor a pen that is good enough to write–
An empty page, a canvas bare,
And all I can do is wonder ‘Why?

Not a single inspiring thought,
Not an idea, fresh like a plucked flower–
All there lies is seemingly eternal drought;
Vast, outstretched, cracked and dry,
While all I do is cry, beg, cower

All for a single spark of inspiration
To set off the most glorious flame–
But all I’m left with is damp kindling,
And a heart that grows worn out by the day;
All I’m asking for is a reason to stay.

Perhaps I’ll find it in a lovely muse,
Or in a flower growing out of a rock,
Or, in the silence of the sea,
Or, in the pages I wrote until my ink ran out–
All I’m looking for is for Time to stop;

With his sharp claws in my shoulder blades,
Perched on me like some murderous hawk.
And, oh, agony, the bitter pain!
The sheer thought is enough for my heart to drop
At the terrifying possibility that I’ll never write again.

And yet I did.
I could.
And I did not stop
Looking for the inspiration that still eludes,
Crying out, calling for my beloved muse.

I did not write a poem based on today’s prompt. I have no good reason for it except that it has been yet another gruelling Monday, and despite the number of times I cry about having a tough time at work, I actually like what I do. I wouldn’t have stuck around if I wasn’t enjoying. But more on that later.

Today’s poem isn’t inspired by any one thing in particular. Rather, I’d like to think of it as a poem that talks about how things just feel a little less colourful or less musical when there’s no muse. It’s something I’ve been dealing with today, which explains why I am not writing a poem based on the prompt. Even if I really do enjoy challenging myself.

Anyway, that’s all I have in me for the day.

See you tomorrow with a brand new poem?

Yours truly,
The Shubhster.

If you like my poem, please do leave a comment or follow my blog! I write a lot of random but interesting stuff, and I try to keep it real. I’d love it if you went ahead and checked out more of my work, while you’re still here. If you think someone you know would appreciate the things I write, feel free to share my page with them! You can also reach out to me on my Twitter or Instagram handles. I always appreciate seeing new people come up to me and tell me they like what I write! It doesn’t happen as often as I would like for it to, but let’s change that, maybe?
This has been day 28 of 30!
See you tomorrow?
Cheerio! Xx
