I wish I could tell you. I really do.
The number of times I’ve taken pen to paper,
Paper to trash-can;
A cycle so vicious, it frustrates me entirely.
But I really wish you knew, my love.
I’ve tried sitting by the sea,
Listening to the waves crashing on the rocks
Drowning the voices of people walking by,
As though the tides hold the answers to my questions.
I really wish they did.
There are so many things I could tell you—
How my days have been, how much I’ve missed you,
Saccharine words of love, mostly.
Nothing ever seems good enough, though.
I really wish I had the right words.
And should my words ever make the envelope,
You’ll know I’ve tried my best,
Spilled all emotions for the love of my life;
It’s not just ink scrawled on paper,
It is my soul that I’ve bared to you.
These letters unsent, they sit
Inside an old journal, nicely hidden away.
And not a single soul but you, my love,
Shall know the things I have for long wanted to say.
“I just really wish you didn’t have to be so far away.”
