It has been a week into NaPoWriMo 2022 already! This is unbelievable. It has been really challenging so far, but I’m having so much fun!
Today’s prompt via napowrimo.net was to argue with a proverb to come up with a poem! I picked a handful of them and scattered them throughout my poem for the day!
If you’re here, go check out my best friends’ pages, Kittu’s Modern Mixtape and Amour Infini. They’re wonderful writers and their works are an absolute treat to read!
Happy reading all the poetry! Xx
Beautiful eyes,
Beautiful lies,
And words disguised
As some salve that cannot soothe
What we already knew–
You weren’t coming back for me,
And I kept waiting in vain
For the lies you made me believe.
They say a stitch in time
Saves nine,
But what stitch could mend
A torn heart left behind?
And what if the needle
Ended up a knife?
Just like all the lies
You kept hidden, disguised.
They say the heart grows fonder
In the absence of another,
But you only did ever
Drift far, far away–
They say love conquers all,
And that pride goes before a fall;
So, if my pride was you,
It’s clear why you never stayed.
And why would you?
Because there’s also
This little saying that goes:
Out of sight, out of mind–
I wonder if these words were salves,
Beautiful lies that people told
Each other to mask the pain–
I guess, proverbs aren’t always right.
Proverbs were just made for humans
Who want to hear beautiful lies.
