I am blown away by the very warm support I received from everyone I’ve known for getting back to writing. I have no excuses for being MIA but the fact that my writing is still appreciated by people means the whole world to me. I am very grateful for it.
So, getting into day 2, the prompt via napowrimo.net suggests we write a platonic love poem, addressed to the object of our affections, recounting some of our shared memories. The very first thing that popped into my head when I thought of what ‘platonic love’ meant to me was my two best friends, Kriti and Anupriya. They have been a part of my life for so long now, and both of them have taken part in NaPoWriMo with me for the last few years. I have truly never felt more connected to anyone else in my life, and the very fact that I was immediately drawn to these two is a very good reason for my choice of title for the poem. They’re family at this point in my life, and they’re the very first people I go to no matter what the weather or reason.
Theoretically, since this is about the two people who know me best and vice versa, this poem should have been the easiest to write. Then again, the love I have for these two girls in my life runs deeper and truer than anything else I’ve ever felt. It’s like dipping your feet in the water at the beach, not knowing that the current will draw you further in until it’s too deep, there’s no escaping. And even then, I don’t think I am doing it enough justice because I’d like to think the bond we share was written by Fate itself.
So, to celebrate bonds that have always meant to be a part of our lives, meant to last pretty much forever, here’s my poem!
Happy reading! Xx
All good things come in threes–
The three fates,
Heaven, hell, and purgatory,
Three cheers to celebrate,
And then there’s the two of you,
My rocks, pillars, and soulmates
A single thread of gold
Tying you both to me.
The sheen was the brightest
As I found you in a crowd,
In the cacophony of eight hundred voices
Yours was the one that stood out.
You with your infinite love,
Eyes full of stars, smiles like the sun,
A single thread of gold flickered to life,
And in you I found a kindred one.
If Fate wasn’t a formidable force
You’d not be written into mine,
Yet here we are, eight orbits in,
Our thread of gold still shines.
Every solstice in winter, yours,
Every solstice in summer, mine,
Light-years from now, I’d find you still
No matter the space or time.
All good things come in threes,
Omne trium perfectumー
A rule so supreme,
A single thread of gold,
Tying the two of you
Forever to me.
