I have been super busy travelling with my best friend and having way too much fun, and I almost forgot about having to write a poem for today! But the best part of having best friends do NaPoWriMo with you is that they not only remind you to write your poem for the day on time, but also that you have an actual community that knows how difficult but fun it is to keep up for 30 days straight!
The prompt for day 5 via napowrimo.net was to either take three of the unlikeliest things and write about what they would perceive of as a blessing, or write about what their take on a different kind of emotion would be. I chose the random combination of a comet, a sandcastle and a snowflake, and I decided to write about how they’d perceive the feeling of ‘homecoming’.
Given that these words were taken completely at random, with no previous thought given to it whatsoever, I am very pleased with how my poem has turned out. I hope you like it as well.
Happy reading! Xx
(1) Eons of wandering adrift, the Comet knows not of a home. Familiar only to ice, dust, and debris, it strays far too away for far too long. Circling worlds uninhabited, with no welcoming souls to see, it meanders through space and time, until it finds familiarity.
Homecoming to the Comet, is being welcomed by millions of souls who will never see it again within their lifetimes.
(2) Crafted fragile, shaped to life, birthing millions of fantasies, the Sandcastle does rise from the sand to the sky– a kingdom overlooking the sea. Away from the waves does the maker carve an edifice so exquisite. Poseidon visits the kingdom regardless, to take what is his.
Homecoming to the Sandcastle, is being established as an irrefutable part of the ocean and the seas.
(3) Born out of air, delicate, unique, the Snowflake floats with grace for a moment ever so brief, bringing with it curious little stories just like it. In every fractal are hidden secrets so deep, every structure a wonder, every crystal pointing to a million possibilities. How does something so frail, so flimsy, encompass and invoke emotions so deep?
Homecoming to the Snowflake is being one of a kind and so frail, but finding those who appreciate its beauty all the same.
