#NaPoWriMo Day 1: Destiny, By Design.

Kicking off yet another year of NaPoWriMo/ GloPoWriMo with this one!

Today’s prompt has been taken from napowrimo.net. The prompt is go through ‘The Art Of Book Covers‘ and select ONE cover that catches our fancy. The hopeless romantic in me couldn’t resist the cover of ‘Loom Of Destiny’. Hence, the inspiration behind this very poem- ‘Destiny, By Design’.

I am still a little rusty from the year of hiatus I have taken from writing, but hopefully I will do this prompt and the poem enough justice with this one. I hope you guys enjoy reading it as much as I loved writing it!

I’ve watched more threads snap,
Unravel,
I’ve had them tugged,
Tied so tight they stung–
Scars from rope burns
Long since healed,

Perhaps it was design,
Perhaps, Destiny.

Destiny is but a loom,
Tireless,
Weaving stories never-ending,
In patterns and shades unseen,
Hurting, healing, mending,
All that was, is, and ever will be–

And perhaps it was by design,
Destiny wove your threads to mine.

I’ve held onto many threads,
Tight,
But they all snapped–
They were better gone,
A lesson by Destiny itself,
Every moment, every move mapped–

It had always been by design,
Destiny meant for you to be mine.

And tied I once held tight
Unfastened,
I let my Destiny weave for me:
Gone is what was never mine,
A single heartstring now tugs
To where I was always meant to be–

It was all by design,
It was always Destiny.

I feel thrilled to be back to my writing roots. It was, after all, this blog that started it all for me. I am glad to be back to participate in NaPoWriMo here, and that my very first piece for this month is something so personal to me.

Hopefully, many more poems will follow in the days to come. I am very excited to share them all with you over the next few days.

Cheerio! Xx
