#NaPoWriMo Day 15: The Amethyst From Afar.

Well, I guess I have successfully kept up with NaPoWriMo halfway through, which is great considering I was not sure if I could keep up even for just a week. But hey, I guess I am capable of juggling more things than I thought. But I don’t think it is wise to test those limits. I am a lot more confident in my creative writing skills now that I have been keeping up with NaPoWriMo. Even with my day job, and my commissions, I can feel the writer in me coming back to life.

That being said, the prompt for today via napowrimo.net was to scroll down the Twitter page called Stamps Bot, which curates beautiful stamps from all around the world. The idea is to pick out a stamp that is a little unusual compared to the rest and write a poem inspired by it. I chose a beautiful stamp from Tajikistan that featured a cluster of Amethyst crystals.

I have always been fascinated by crystals because they are raw, unpolished, uncut, and still so beautiful and resilient. They’re one of the most beautiful things in nature and I love collecting them, whether it is just to admire them, or for their supposed properties.

Anyway, without further ado, here’s my poem for the day.
Happy reading! Xx

I once received a postcard,
From somewhere quite afar,
But it wasn’t the card itself that caught my eye–
Glued to it was a stamp,
As beautiful as it was rare,
A cluster of amethyst you couldn’t elsewhere find.

Somewhere far up in the mountains
Growing since the years before me,
A brilliant purple, a gem so bright,
Reflecting the sun with every beam of light,
On its back inscribed a message brief,
‘May your dreams only sparkle with vibrant belief,
And though the path may be steep,
And the road may be long,
Hold on to the beauty,
It’ll lead you to where you belong.’

Now nestled in its frame I hold a treasure dear
As a constant reminder whispered in my ear,
That hidden gems bloom in the most unexpected places,
And dreams, like amethysts deserve cherished displays.
The postcard may fade and its colours may dim,
But its spirit behind it, a radiant hymn,
It beckons me onwards to chase the light,
To find my own magic, and hold on to it tight.
