#NaPoWriMo Day 16: Supermarket Aisles.

We’re officially in the second half of NaPoWriMo and so far, I am surprised at how much my writing has changed, but at the same time, I don’t hate it. It’s a change from my more romantic musings, and I like exploring this side of my writing. Maybe this will catapult me in a different direction that I am yet to explore with my writing, and it’s really shocking to me how 26 years later, I am still discovering things about myself that I thought I already knew.

Anyway, for today’s prompt via napowrimo.net, we have a poem that describes an object or a place, and ends with a line that seemingly has nothing to do with the poem (but does!). So, a couple of hours before I wrote this, I was actually at the supermaket for no reason but to just let off some steam by buying a few groceries, you know, as one does. So I decided to write about what I saw, instead of trying to think of something that’s far, far away, or something that doesn’t even exist.

And here’s the poem for today!
Happy reading. Xx

In the midst of the neverending aisles is standing
Wide-eyed, a child who just wants candy,
Throwing tantrums to the tired parent
Out on a grocery run for the week.
On another end stands
On another aisle is a girl,
Weighing her options with chilled yogurt,
Around me people run helter-skelter,
With baskets filled to the brim with this or that.
The pitter-patter of voices fills the air
Along with the cash registers rings,
As I wonder if I’d find what I want here…
‘Wait, what was I here for, again?’
