The same sun wakes us up–
You and I–
Only, in different phases,
Never the same.
And yet, somehow from beyond the horizon,
From someplace I’d never been,
You gravitated towards me,
Like it was the most natural thing, anyway.
We might as well be worlds apart,
Or on different orbits and other things,
But the world spun into place
Just for once, for a brief moment,
So we’d carve a space into the other’s existence.
And there’s no science behind this,
No way to tell if we’re here by fate or design,
Or by pure happenstance–
One thing I can be certain of, my dear friend,
Is that some cosmic gravity binds us;
And across different orbits and trajectories,
The universe aligned for us fantastically–
What else is there for me to do,
But cherish this bond forged in the stars?
What else is there for me to do
But love you more, every hour on the hour?

Today’s prompt via napowrimo.net is to write a poem about friendship inspired by certain paintings. I decided that my burnt-out self was not up for that challenge, and I simply wrote a poem about friendship instead. Because, if I’m being honest, I wouldn’t know where I’d be today if it weren’t for my best friends being here for me. Oh, and have I mentioned they live in completely different cities?
People often ask me how we’re able to maintain a friendship when we hardly get to see each other. But honestly, it has never felt difficult. Not even once. Not even when I was at my worst. I’ve been best friends with two of the most amazing women for over 8 years now, and it only feels like our bond grows stronger every time we finally manage to meet in person. I’m glad they exist, and I’m glad these are the people who chose to find their way into my life and stay here. People don’t realize this enough, but it’s such a privilege getting to know someone for that long and seeing each other grow into who we are today.
I’m just grateful our orbits aligned.
I’m keeping it short today because it has been a very exhausting day for me, and I almost didn’t even write anything. But you know what, I’m going to keep going. For the sake of art.
See you tomorrow!
Yours truly,
The Shubhster.
If you like my poem, please do leave a comment or follow my blog! I write a lot of random but interesting stuff, and I try to keep it real. I’d love it if you went ahead and checked out more of my work, while you’re still here. If you think someone you know would appreciate the things I write, feel free to share my page with them! You can also reach out to me on my Twitter or Instagram handles. I always appreciate seeing new people come up to me and tell me they like what I write! It doesn’t happen as often as I would like for it to, but let’s change that, maybe?
This has been day 17 of 30!
See you tomorrow?
Cheerio! Xx
