Ignore For Attention?

Does that make any sense to you? No? Me neither.

Apparently, the latest fad is to ignore people until they come over to talk to you. You ignore, and ignore and ignore the person, hoping that they would understand that you’ve been avoiding them, to the point where they can’t take the silence anymore and start wondering what they’ve done to deserve this. That’s when they start paying attention to you!

I have no idea why people think that it is very ‘cool’ to ignore somebody to catch their attention. You know what? Utter rubbish, is what it is. I just don’t see the logic here. How is ignoring someone going to draw them towards you? Well, I hate to break your bubble, but ignoring people is only going to push them away, not bring them closer. If being ignored can hurt you, it most definitely can hurt others too.

“One of the worst states to be in, is to be ignored. Obscurity like insecurity, kills!”
― Bernard Kelvin Clive

Yeah? Don’t!

You want someone to notice you? Well, make yourself heard! Stand out! Better yet, go talk to the person whose attention you so crave, instead of coming up with all these stupid mind-games, like ignoring them, or avoiding them, or refusing to answer their calls or text messages altogether!

The problem with us is that we live in a time where all the movies, all the television shows, and sometimes even books, stress on the fact that ‘playing hard to get’ is a sure-shot way to get people to come over to talk to you. It is totally wrong. You ignoring someone would surely make them wonder what’s wrong, but then, it is not the solution that you’re looking for.

This method might seem to work in poorly written fiction, but in real life, pushing someone away simply means that you want to distance yourselves from them- which is kinda’ rude, to be frank. And being rude gets you nowhere.

Rude, HELLO?

I can’t seem to stress enough on the point that you should talk to the person instead of ignoring them, if you want to be noticed. There is no problem in the world that cannot be solved by talking! Remember what Albus Dumbleore said?

“Words are, in my not-so-humble opinion, our most inexhaustible source of magic. Capable of both inflicting injury, and remedying it.”
― J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

And it is true. Communication is a key that can open so many doors, only if you knew how to use it. Ignoring someone, on the other hand, is the opposite of communication. How can we ever expect to solve things if kept on ignoring them?

What if I told you that even if someone really fell in love with you, you pushed them away from yourselves while craving for attention? Ask yourself, is this what you had in mind when you decided you would ignore them to win their affection? No? I thought so.

Don’t push people away hoping they’d pay attention to you if you did.

Stop this stupid practice, guys! Ignoring is the opposite of whatever solution you want. Get it together and go talk it out with the person concerned. The pretty girl you like, but have been ignoring? Go talk to her. Ignoring her is only pushing her away. The friend you had a misunderstanding with, ages ago? Go talk to them. They probably miss you, too.

Be more vocal. It helps. Trust me on this one!

Cheerio! Xx

  1. You know, this isn’t a fad,but one of the oldest tricks ithe book? Yep, saas bahu often face this. So do employees from bosses (I know I faced it) and among lovers/couples its just about power play. A lot of what youre saying makes sense, and yes,in most cases, talking it out actually helps resolve the problem. But sometimes, the ignoring comes not from spite, but from exhaustion because the other party has already been told, and told, and told, but never pays heed. In that situation there is nothing else to do but to ignore. If the other comes to you, maybe there’s still hope. But generally when it gets that bad, it’s the start of the end.

    1. Thanks, Pradita!
Well, I have merely voiced my personal opinion through this post. True, it may work sometimes. But the vocal person that I am, I believe talking can get things done.
But to each, his own. 🙂

      1. You’re welcome 😊 we each go through our own journeys and learn lessons our own way. That’s what I’ve seen and I just thought I should share my opinion with you. Thanks for this wonderful post 😊

  2. Very true ~. If one really values another one. Certainly there are frustrations now and then caused by pride and prejudice, and jealousy may be but to lose, as they say, is much easier than to find.

      1. Mutual means if not for ever then for long. Compatible in thoughts are compatible in almost every thing. It’s a rare some thing I guess. It’s more than just an attraction or attention as you define it here. ~

      2. Oh, no.
Not defining anything here. Compatibility has a deep definition that cannot be explained via just a single aspect. Merely voicing my opinion on how people misunderstand the comcept of “playing hard to get”.
