Ashes to ashes, dust to dust,
But what if that wasn’t the end?
Caught in this endless circle of life;
We burst into flames,
Only to be reborn from ashes again.
The brilliance of Sun itself,
A shard of fire and light,
With vibrant colours of the flame,
From golden yellows to reds so bright,
Burning shades of fury and rage,
Power brimming from within, hot-white.
Yes, I’ve been hurt with fatal blows,
But this is not the end, not even close
For when I’m at the precipice of death
I shall be reborn once again,
As I let out what could be my last breath,
Writhing in the agony and blinding pain,
I shall burst into singeing flames,
You’ve been warned:
I will rise once more, you’ll see,
A Phoenix from the ashes,
Stronger every time,
Wiser than I was before–
You’ve probably heard tales of me,
Thought I couldn’t be a reality.
Well, here I am, and I’ll fight again,
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust,
As long as there’s fight in me,
I can, I will and I must.
I’m so excited to be writing for #NaPoWriMo / #GloPoWriMo once again! Today’s prompt via napowrimo.net was ‘your favourite bird’ and nothing has ever captivated me like the mythical Phoenix. There’s something stunning about being a part of the sun and being reborn from its own ashes that gives me a lot of motivation to bounce back from my own failures. Here’s hoping I can do complete justice to the upcoming poems as well! Xx
