#NaPoWriMo Day 8: You Look Like Peace (Sonnet).

For Day 8 of NaPoWriMo, I chose to write something without a prompt because this came to me in the early hours of the day, and I didn’t want to just let it remain in my drafts. This is a very personal poem to me and I wanted this to be a part of me rediscovering my love for writing, during the course of this month.

Often, when you write for love, out of love, you end up discovering that you don’t always have to find the beauty in the unknown secrets of the Universe when the simplest of joys lie right in front of you. This poem stems from one such love, and I adore every bit of how it turned out.

Side note: I understand why Shakespeare waxed poetic in so many sonnets. I get it, Willy Shakes, I really do.

And that being said, here’s today’s poem for you!

In hushed whispers of early AM,
The rest of the world sleeps,
And we’re still awake–
With the expanse of stars between,
But hearts as close as they could be,
Promising the world to one another,
As I promise you, me,
Happiness, love, and peace.

And how simple it is, I think,
When it is as clear as could be:
All the secrets of the Universe
Laid bare before me–
My home has always been you,
You’ve always been my peace.

8 Days of writing and I have discovered that it is getting increasingly difficult to stick to prompts this month because I really don’t have the luxury of time like I did last year. It truly breaks my heart to realize that I am unable to explore poetry as much as I did in the last 4 years of NaPoWriMo. But I guess this year is all about re-discovering my love for poetry as it is and how much I enjoyed writing poems before. I am finding more pieces of myself that I had forgotten about in the last year of hiatus that I took from this blog, and it’s truly still an uphill battle, but I am glad that some things have remained the same over the course of the hiatus.

Here’s to more of that joy, I guess!

Cheerio! Xx
