#NaPoWriMo Day 9: An Ode To Endless Yarn.

I was being too brave thinking that I could keep up with every day of NaPoWriMo this year. Although I have been struggling to do so because of adulting, it’s also a lot of fun, and a much needed break at the end of a working day to sit and think from a more creative perspective than my job requires me to. I am frankly so glad I am getting back to writing more regularly because it has been such a huge part of who I am, for the last few years. So even though I fell off of writing here for a while, it’s nice to see that there’s something to look forward to at the end of the day.

Today’s prompt via napowrimo.net was to write an ode to a random everyday object that we use a lot. Since I have been crocheting a lot since this past October, yarn has pretty much become my most reliable buddy. Even the guy who delivers our packages home knows by now that if a package has yarn, it is almost always for me. It is truly surprising how something can become so significant in our lives. To me, it is probably because I have made birthday gifts and random keepsakes for more people than I can keep track of at this point, and I plan to do that a lot more.

I have always liked hand-made presents more than anything, but I also know that not everyone can make hand-made things for the people they love. That they choose me to make something to bring happiness to the people they love in itself is very meaningful to me, and it’s why I chose to write an ode to yarn in particular.

Without further ado, here’s my poem!

Happy reading! Xx

A slip stitch here,
A double crochet there,
A picot in between–
A flower petal here,
A braided cord there,
A million possibilities.

A scarf to keep a beloved warm,
A keepsake to hold onto,
A pillow for comfort…

I spin things seemingly out of thin air, bits and scraps of yarn the evidence of my undying love solidified in art. Souvenirs can be acquired for money exchanged, but there can only be one of everything I make. So, if it weren’t for you, my reliable friend, twisting and bending yourself to create, my world would be a less colourful place.
