I think I might have yet another favourite work of mine from this year’s NaPoWriMo season. I wrote it in under 10 minutes, and I am very proud of it. I think it conveys a lot in very few words, which is what i was going for anyway. Then again, as someone who writes, I am my worst critic. So it’s really hard for me to come up with something that even I genuinely like.
Today’s prompt via napowrimo.net required us to write an anaphoric poem. An anaphora is a form of poetry where 10 lines or more start with the same word in the poem. I combined an anaphora with a sonnet in the poem. Of course, it’s a little contemporary for a sonnet, but I am really happy with the way it turned out, regardless.
Here’s the poem for today!
Happy reading. Xx
We lie awake, you and I,
Like the rest of us in the universe,
Looking for a reason to hold on,
And it all comes down to ‘because…’
‘Because I love you…’
‘Because I care.’
‘Because there is hope for us yet.’
‘Because you wanted me there.’
‘Because I promised.’
‘Because we’re better together,’
‘Because life isn’t the same without you.’
‘Because I can’t lose you, either.’
‘Because there has to more to life.’
‘Because there are others like you and I.’
