Truthfully, I wasn’t looking forward to today for some reason. I was low on motivation and inspiration until last night and I was almost going to turn off my phone for the entire day and just stay in and watch movies, back-to-back, until I passed out on the couch. But, when I woke up this morning, I realized that I felt pretty good about everything going on. Until last year, I had claimed my birthday as everybody’s favourite day of the year (because I’m that extra), so it really was surprising to everybody why I wasn’t looking forward to today. But here I am, at 4PM, writing this blog post after a day of answering calls and replying to endless texts, and I feel like I am ready for this year.

You know, everyone says that you need to have your entire life sorted out by the time you hit 23. I call BS on that! You’ll have your life sorted out when you have it sorted out and not a minute sooner. There’s always this kind of pressure that you need to have achieved great things in life by the time you’re 23 because everyone else is doing it out there. But let me tell you something that I always tell you: that is utter rubbish! At 23, you’re just starting out, you’re just figuring things out for yourself. The world outside is scary and it’s bigger than it seems on social media. The sheer number of people out there in the world should make you feel better about where you are in life at this very moment.

If you’re motivated to achieve great things and you’re well on your way, that’s great; love that for you. But if you’re on a tear to climb up the ladder just because you’re afraid that you’re going to be ‘left behind’ or something, I think you need to take a beat and re-evaluate your entire process. Because, at the end of the day, if you’re doing something for anything other than your love for it, you’re doing it all wrong, no matter how you choose to look at it. And before you tell me that it never is that simple, it actually is.

So, after 2 years of trying to figure out what I want to do and where I would like to be, I think I know which direction I am going in and I am not scared of it. I still am nervous and I know I have dreams that are larger than life itself, but I know where I am going and I have my people right here backing me up on it.

Here’s to turning 23! I may not have everything planned out yet, and I know that I am not taking things at the same pace as everybody else around me, but I am healthy and happy. That’s what really matters. I have loving friends and family. I have a dream and I am slowly making my way there. And so will you!

Cheerio! Xx

  1. First of all: congrats

    Second of all: WHAT?!?
Who in the world says ridiculous things like having to have it all sorted out at 23?
I was still in college then. Hell. I’m 31 now and STILL nowhere near having anything figured out. What a load of beepbeep xD.

Just go at your own pace. It’s way more fun that way!

  2. Wooooohooooo πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰ HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!! πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

Absolutely BS on the whole having-your-life-figured-out crap. There’s so much pressure and worse, I think, are those unwritten, unspoken ‘rules’ in society. Things don’t turn out, we don’t know what we want to do, or life has other plans and everything goes haywire. So many people worry they don’t have a clue while everyone else has their sh*t together, when really we’re all confused. If you have that dream and an idea of where you want to go – which is sounds like you do – have confidence in yourself and go for it, but without putting too much pressure on it or on yourself. It’s your life, live it as you wish and don’t worry how things turn out, just enjoy the process. You’ve got this. Β β™₯Β β™₯Β β™₯Β β™₯
