As of today, I have been writing on this blog every single day for the last 2 years, or 731 whole days! And what a year the last one has been!
And I don’t mean that in the best sense, but it hasn’t been entirely bad for me, at least as far as writing is considered. This blog had its fair share of ups and downs in the last year and I found myself struggling to write anything at al on a number of days, but I am so glad that I somehow overcame all of that because this blog has kept me afloat during a time when an outlet for my emotions was something that I badly needed. I’ve also come across some wonderful bloggers in the last year, and I would like to tell them that although I have been on a bit of a break from the blogging scene and I haven’t really been paying attention to everything going on in the current blogosphere, I have immense love and respect for every single one of you.
The first thing that I absolutely have to mention is that my blog hit an all-time monthly high of 5.7k views, which is beyond amazing to somebody who is still trying to make her blog something important. It would absolutely not have been possible without every single person who reads the things I write here. Also, my blog currently ranks at #10 on Feedspot’s list of Top 30 Mumbai Lifestyle Blogs, after having been ranked at #17 a few months ago, and this is a milestone that I am so, so, so proud of. Thank you so much, everyone!
I started writing last year, as I have been doing for two years now, with my contributions for NaPoWriMo (National Poetry Writing Month) 2020, and it was a lot of fun writing poems for NaPoWriMo last year because my best friend Kriti (from Kittu’s Modern Mixtape) and I made sure that we participated in this event together. Both of us have a very different style of writing and it was a delight to read all the wonderful poetry that we both came up with. It’s something I am looking forward to doing this year as well.
Also, I have to mention that I couldn’t have posted here every single day if it wasn’t for my wonderful friends Kriti, Akshit and Anupriya (from Amour Infini) and their amazing guest posts on the blog. They helped me out by stepping in for a few days as guest writers on my blog (you can find their posts right here!) and delivered some really amazing content that I am glad they thought this blog could use. I am looking forward to collaborating with them a lot more this year and I can’t wait for all the collaborative posts as well as guest posts that I want to publish on the blog this year. It is an honour to be able to share content written by people I admire on a platform that I really enjoy writing on.
I watched as my best friends started their own blog pages, as they should have done long ago, and I am so glad that they did because they are some of the best writers I have ever had the fortune of knowing. It means a lot to me that I now get to see their content get the appreciation that it actually deserves. I still think that they deserve more of it because the things they write are so different, compared to mine, and so insightful. I am hoping to see their blogs go more places this year and I will be right here, cheering them on.
I also did a bunch of interactive posts this year that ranged from weekend Q ‘n’ A’s as well as insights on the results of a poll that I put up on my social media platforms. I enjoyed discussing with people the different perspectives they have on different things in life. It encouraged conversation, and at a time when we were all deprived of social lives, no matter how lively (or not) they were, these conversations really helped me write things that I couldn’t have written otherwise. To everyone who interacted and everyone who actively took a part in the conversations that we attempted to have on the blog, thank you! This was something new that I tried on my blog in the last year and it was one of the best things I did. This post titled ‘What Do We Think Of ‘Soulmates’?‘ was one of the best things to come out of it.
My best friend also made me try something new with my writing that I had been meaning to try for a very long time. She started a writing challenge that made us give very bookish descriptions to the very real people in our lives. It was such a good practice in writing because it helped me expand my horizons as a writer. I am going to try to take part in as many writing challenges as possible this year because not only does it sound like a lot of fun, but it is also a great way to see how much you’ve grown as a writer.
Another thing that I absolutely have to mention is the number of nominations my blog got for several blogger awards. It means so much to me that there are other bloggers out there who just want to spread positivity and bring other bloggers and their work to light. It was such a beautiful experience to have been nominated by so many bloggers from around the world and it also allowed me to discover some hidden gems that I am so glad I found. I am so honoured to have received so many nominations from my closest friends as well. It means a lot that people acknowledge the kind of work that goes into a blog and I am glad there are bloggers trying to uplift their fellow bloggers.
It has been a year of writing a lot of posts that are really just journal entries because I frankly wasn’t in the right headspace for writing something insightful or creative, but I am so glad that people are somehow always able to find a little part of themselves in my posts. That’s all I ever want for my blog posts to do. I just want to make sure that people know that they’re not alone and that it is okay to feel the way they’re feeling and that they’re very valid for that.
I might not always have the right words to say, but I am always trying to be a better person than I was yesterday. I’m sure that I have a really long way to go because I am still learning how to grow as a person and to unlearn the things that shaped me into the person I am today. I hope people will allow themselves the same kind of space to learn and to grow because change happens to be the only constant.
I find myself learning something new every single day and there are days when all I ever want to do is get my laptop out and write about everything I have learned. There are also days when all I want to do is to find an outlet for everything I’ve been keeping shut in. Either way, it’s wonderful to actually have a platform where I can do that.
Here’s me wrapping up my 2nd trip around the sun as I continue to write every single day. There will be a lot more coming up in this next year around the sun on my blog and I hope you guys will be here for it as you have been. I can only hope to grow.
Looking forward to the next milestone,
The Shubhster. Xx
