#NaPoWriMo Day 29: Windows Of This Love.

Today, napowrimo.net asked us to write a poem about a window looking over a place or a scene in particular. I decided that my poem would be something slightly melancholic because it seemed like a good idea.

I am very proud of this one, if I do say so myself. Again, this is a pretty simple and straightforward poem, so I am not going to give this one any endnotes.

And while you’re here, make sure you go check out my best friends’ blogs, Kittu’s Modern Mixtape and Amour Infini for more amazing poetry!

Happy reading! Xx

I look through the windows of
A love that we could never have,
Soaked to the bone in the sunlight, soft,
I could hear the music and the laughs,
And amidst a quiet moment,
You reached out and took my hand,
The smiles we wore on our lips drowned out
The hour that was drenched in warm golden—

We look happier than we’ve ever been,
I wonder where it all went wrong,
And if we could go back to that,
I wonder if we could come back, stronger.

But all that remains of you now
Is this window to a life we’ll never live,
Draped in curtains of green vines,
Pots of red roses by our window sill,
White picket fences keep me out,
And when I look back, all time goes still—

So I walk away,
Like I’d done before,

Carrying my broken heart with me
And so much more,
I’d walk away from what we could’ve had,
But it’s all I’ve ever longed for…

Don’t you think it’s cruel and sad,
Now that you’ve looked into the window
To everything we could’ve had?

So, take my hand,
Come with me…

And you can look through the windows of
A love that we could never have,
Now that we’ve walked our separate ways,
I wonder if you, too, look back
At snippets of the life we once dreamt of,
Do you ever feel sadness wash over
When you think of all that we could’ve had?
I wonder if this picture of us
Ever makes you want to go back

To everything that we thought we could be,
Blissfully in love, happy,
Dancing in the hour painted golden,
A picture painted into a window is all we’ll ever be.

But all that remains of me now
Is this window to a life we’ll never live,
Draped in curtains of green vines,
Pots of red roses by our window sill,
White picket fences keeping you out,
And when you look back, all time goes still—

So you walk away,
Like you’ve done before,

Leaving my broken heart with me
And nothing much more,
You walked away from what we could’ve had,
It’s not what you want anymore…

And I just think how cruel and sad this is,
Now that I’ve looked into the window,
Crippled by the loss of what we could’ve once had.

But if this was in another life,
Would you come with me?
