#NaPoWriMo Day 21: Lies In Forever.

Today’s prompt via napowrimo.net is so tricky! The poem needs to start with recalling a person who’s no longer in touch, and then a job we no longer have, and mention a piece of art that stuck with us, finally ending with an unanswerable question.

Although it was quite a challenge to work with, I think I did a pretty good job with the prompt here. The artwork that I’ve mentioned is called ‘I am that I am‘ by Purva Pandit, which I once had the pleasure of seeing at an art festival. It was basically a tree made of mirrors and it has really stayed with me through the years.

Also, if you’re here, go check out my best friends’ pages, Kittu’s Modern Mixtape, and Amour Infini. They’re both wonderful writers and you’re going to love reading what they have to say.

Happy reading! Xx

My footsteps often lead me
To places we once made our own;
All that remain are traces of you,
In ghosts of laughter and love
I can no longer feel–
And forever was just…
Another lie we fell for–
The forever I believed in the most was in you.

I once wrote stories,
And I no longer do,
For they no longer hold the same allure
They once used to–
Funny, is it not?
How things stay with you
Long after they’re gone
With the wind that brought it,
And into the blue.

So, as my eyes take in
This tree of mirrors they behold,
My reflection whispers to me,
‘I am that I am,
And I shall be everything you need,’
The only forever all along
Was my past, my present, and me–
Even if it took me years to see.

But someday,
I shall perish too,
Leaving behind only my words
And ghosts of my memories;
What else is there to live for
If not the life I’ve dreamed?
What forever can ever last
If there isn’t a mark I leave?
