Today’s prompt via napowrimo.net was to write a poem full of outlandish similes. It took a while for me to come up with this, but I think it turned out well. I hope you’ll like it too.
Please also go check out my best friends’ pages, Kittu’s Modern Mixtape, and Amour Infini. They are amazing writers, and they have done a great job with NaPoWriMo this year! I’m sure you’ll love their perspectives.
Happy reading! Xx
It weighs over me,
Like the weight of a mountain,
The exhaustion of being,
Of looking for purpose–
I’ve never found it,
And it remains elusive,
Like most unanswerable questions,
And most mysteries.
It weighs over me
Like my eyelids, close to sleep,
Struggling to stay awake
And fighting on to keep
Myself from falling to slumber,
Like all the fortresses
And kingdoms
That have fallen before me.
It weighs over me
Like the looming disasters
That hide behind
The peaceful waters of the sea–
With all false hope to lure me in,
Until I’m unable to break surface
As I’m shipwrecked and drowning.
It weighs over me
As it must weigh over you,
Like most questions in life
Always seem to,
And it seems impossible
To uncover the truth,
So I go on living as I have,
Hoping I’ll find the answers, too.
