One of the most comforting things that I could ever experience as an artist is that someone out there is probably drawing inspiration from my artwork, whether it’s from my paintings or my poetry. To an artist, inspiration is at the very core of creation, and to be the source of that inspiration for somebody, that is a feeling pretty unparalleled.
My batchmate from way back in school decided to work on a beautiful piece of calligraphy, using lines from my poetry anthology as inspiration for her artwork, and waking up to her calligraphy really made my day. Not two days ago, I was wondering whether I could ever be the source of inspiration for someone out there. Now that it has happened, and now that I know I am inspiring somebody out there in the world, even if it is only just person at the moment, I don’t have the right words to express the joy it brings me. As an artist, I think this is going to be one of my most memorable moments.
To everyone out there who is reading this, if you’re wondering whether your art has the power to move people, let this be a message: your art can move mountains. You have no idea how many people draw inspiration from your work. And if that sounds pretty unbelievable to you, try putting up one of your artworks on Pinterest, and see how many people save it as inspiration. It is so important to keep creating if that is what makes us the happiest. Whether or not our art can inspire people depends on how much soul we pour into every piece we make.
As long as we are in love and in touch with our inner artists, we will always find something to be inspired by and somebody to inspire. People will naturally draw inspiration from you if you stay true to your inner artist. At the heart and soul of every artwork is how much love and patience has gone into making it, and that applies to your art as well, whatever form that may be in.
To whoever is reading this, to whoever needs to hear this today: never stop creating if that is what you like to do. Be adamant. Be stubborn about sticking to what you love. I promise it is worth every bit of that struggle, in the end. Xx
