#NaPoWriMo Day 20: The Bloody Crown.

They call us ‘Queens’ and ‘Princesses’,
Tell us we’re ‘a force to be reckoned with’.
We’re told we’ll carve our own pathways,
Or that ‘You’re a sword that only slays’.

The crown on our heads so high,
The one we wear with pride—
Something nobody every warns
Is that the bloody crown’s made of thorns.

Digging into our heads, drawing blood,
Oozing the crimson red of a rosebud,
As though it were a vengeful spindle;
Whoever said wearing a crown would be simple?

It’s not the crown that lets us rule,
But our prowess that’s the crowning jewel.
We don’t scare easy, you can’t kick us down,
You’ve been warned: Beware of the bloody crown.

Hey everyone! In the spirit of National Poetry Writing Month, I will be writing some poems for every day of April. Each Day will have a new prompt. I hope I can keep up with the challenge. You can join me in celebrating #NaPoWriMo 2019 and check out the prompts here. I’ll look forward to hearing from you.

Yours truly,

The Shubhster.

You’ve been warned: Beware of the bloody crown.”
