I Wonder.

I wonder what it would be like
To someday wake up to your face–
For you to be the one I see
The moment my eyes flutter awake,
And the last sight to be
Before we faded to black.

I wonder how it would feel
To be the one to watch you breathe,
To be the one in your embrace,
Listening to your heart beat
Steadily until it matches mine,
Chills running down my spine.

I wonder why I fell for you,
Then I realize I don’t have a reason.
There isn’t one and there shouldn’t be,
For the heart wants what it wants,
So if mine wants you and yours wants me,
To hold ourselves back, who are we?

I wonder what it’s like,
To intertwine my fingers in yours,
To watch as they fit perfectly
As though they were made for each other,
And by some stroke of luck
Ended up together forever.

I’ve always wondered what love feels like,
Fallen for the idea of it,
What I thought it should be.
But it all seems so simple now,
It’s no winding mystery–
My love, it’s just us: you and me.
