I spent all of today trying to stay away from doing just about anything creative or productive. Am I proud of it? Well, no. But it was much-needed. I have been all over the place, lately. I can’t focus on writing or sketching the way I used to, and something tells me that it’s because I have been trying to do too many things all at once. Maybe I’m just way too overwhelmed, by all the things I love to do, to even think straight. I have a couple of very interesting things that I am currently working on, and I think that it definitely earns me a little bit of a break.
We all tell ourselves that when we do something we love, we’re not going to feel the pressure that has been thrust upon us. It’s not entirely wrong because you do feel a sense of satisfaction at the end of the day, but it also means that you’re going to be giving it your 100% or nothing. Let’s be honest, here: we aren’t going to be satisfied unless we know that we’ve given it our 100%. Those two things can exist together. You can love something enough to not feel pressurized by the world outside, but you’re also going to put a lot of pressure on yourself because you want to do your best.
I know it seems like all I ever do is tell you to take a break from things, but I have a pretty good reason behind it. The world that we live in glorifies the notion of working until you drop to an extremely unhealthy extent. The truth is that no matter how well we end up doing for ourselves, it’s not going to matter unless we’re present enough to live in that moment. It doesn’t matter how hard we’ve worked for what we have right now unless we can truly be happy with it. And it is impossible to be happy with what you have right now if all you ever do is worry about what you could’ve had.
It’s simple: you work hard enough to save up for a trip, and when you finally go on that trip, you spend your entire time worrying about all of your unread emails and how you forgot to water that one plant that you never pay attention to, anyway! Isn’t that just counter-productive? What would even be the point of you going on that trip if you spend your time worrying about things that don’t even concern you in that moment? You see what I mean? We have to stop giving ourselves a hard time.
Your grand plans for your life aren’t going anywhere as long as you’re dedicated enough to make them all happen, but understand it is not going to matter if you’re not sound enough when you finally make it. Don’t listen to people who say that ‘you need to forget about sleep and other necessary things until you’ve made it’. That’s such an unhealthy notion to have!
Do you have any idea how many new titles Netflix has for you to watch? Or any other platform, for that matter! Do you know how much good music is out there? How many books are out there to be read? How many places exist in your vicinity that you probably haven’t even explored yet! If you think that absolutely have to spend your life dedicated to your work, think again! The world has so much to offer. It’s pretty stupid of you if you think that you don’t want to be exposed to all the other wonderful things that exist.
Give yourself a day away from your routine. Just one day!
