In Pursuit.

You know how almost every song these days is either about being heartbroken, or not being able to find the right person, or about finding the right person but losing them because of some misunderstanding? And you know how Rom-Coms make us believe that the world looks so much brighter when we’re in love because ‘If you’re a bird, I’m a bird’?

It’s no surprise that a lot of times, people end up feeling very lonely because they ‘have nobody’. And the number of people who are either looking for love or moping about never being able to find ‘the one’ baffles me!

You may think that it’s easy for me to say such things because I already have a boyfriend. But let me tell you something: I wasn’t looking for anybody when it happened. These are the kind of things that you don’t go looking for because let’s face it— there are over 7 billion people on the planet! How many places can you go searching?

And that’s not even the point! The point is that you don’t have to go looking for love. It will come find you when it is the right time. Until then, learn to love the only person who will stay with you forever. That person is you, my dear friend! I’m not even going to begin to explain how much power loving yourself can give you, because I’m still learning of its full potential. But wow, it can be so empowering!

So, you know, if you’re lying on your bed, playing some romantic song on a cold, rainy day, feeling sorry for yourself, just know that romantic love is not the goal. Transcendental love is. Love isn’t just one person. It’s an all-consuming feeling that you have in your heart for everything that is good and pure.

Sure, finding that one person who you share a beautiful connection with can be magical. But sometimes, that connection can be found in a best friend or a parent. Love doesn’t “complete” anybody! We’re complete human beings in ourselves.

So when you look in the mirror today, I want you to tell yourself that you don’t need a relationship or a person to define you. If you’re in love with somebody, then great; I’m very happy for you. But do not let that become your identity.

Let things happen in their own time.
