Isn’t that the most overused trope of all time?
‘Love conquers all!’
‘They fought for their love against the world.’
What isn’t mentioned anywhere, though, is that if you truly love somebody, you never stop fighting to keep them in your lives. It’s often assumed that once somebody is in your life, putting in a minimal amount of effort is enough to make them stay.
But what is the point of having somebody in your life if you cannot tell them how much they mean to you every single day? What is the point if you don’t let them know how grateful you are to have them in your lives? Because if there’s anything that we should learn from life, it’s that we don’t know what’s going to hit us tomorrow.
God forbid it happens to anybody, but whipping out photos after somebody is really gone and shedding tears for what has been lost and memories you’ll never get to make? What good is that going to do? Fighting against the odds for the people in your life while they’re still in your life? That’s the real challenge.
The real ‘odds’ are thrown at us when we finally feel as if we have earned our happy ending. Misunderstandings, miscommunication, fights over nothing in particular— these things are a part of our lives and they will keep happening to us. Ending things or bailing on the people we love because of a rough patch brought on by external factors needs to stop.
We need to put in a little more effort into telling how much the people closest to us really mean to us. They’re the ones we really need to fight for. Today and always.
Time to fight for important things.
Cheerio! Xx
