There are a lot of things that we worry about when we do something that is way out of our comfort zone. There’s far more to worry about when you’re doing something that is not just out of your comfort zone, but also happens to be something that you’ve probably never done before. There’s always the fear of messing things up, no matter how much effort you’ve put in, and I, for one, think that it’s one of the most terrifying feelings ever. Then again, when you realize that you might just be a whole lot better at doing whatever it is than you were giving yourself credit for, it all feels worth it.
I don’t know if what I just said made any sort of sense because I usually just write whatever comes to mind, here, but the point is that we’re never going to find out if we’re actually good at doing something unless we give it a go. Maybe it’s going to take us a couple of tries to get things anywhere close to ‘right’, but isn’t that what learning is all about? The fear of uncertainty is always going to be at the back of our heads, whispering mean things to us the entire time. It’s definitely not an easy thing to overcome. But when you finally do, when you finally see your hard work taking the shape that you intended for it, it really makes you wonder whether you were just afraid to face whatever you’d see at the end of the road.
I’ve come to realize that the best ideas and the best work only come out of you when you allow yourself to truly let go. For me, the best ideas are always the ones that come to me when I’m not even actively seeking them out, or when I am just playing around with a bunch of things that I think might work. It always happens when you least expect it to, though. That much has always been clear to me.
We always end up giving ourselves a very hard time over what things should look like and not how they could be. Maybe we just need to give ourselves a chance, sometimes. Who knows? We may even end up surprising ourselves. You don’t always have to be good at everything you do, but how will you ever be good at something if you don’t give it a shot? How do you know you’re not going to be good at it if you give up just after the first try? Sure, giving yourself multiple chances may seem like a lot of work, but I can promise you that the feeling when you finally manage to do something that you’ve never done before is pretty much the best feeling ever.
Don’t give up on yourself so easily, the next time, maybe? Take some time if you feel like it’s getting to you too much, but don’t give up without a fair fight. You’ve got a lot more potential than you think!
