Down the same roads we go,
Taking all the same old turns,
Wondering why we always end up here,
Right back to where we began,
Right where we were yesterday.
Picking at our healing wounds,
Finding some solace in the pain;
How curious, how foolish it is,
That we never seem to learn!
Wounded and hurting all over again.
Seeking answers we don’t really need,
Looking in all of the wrong places,
Searching where they’ll never be,
Chasing truth we don’t want to hear,
Seeing only what we want to see,
Burying secrets in haunted grounds,
Locked in chests without a key,
A million ways to draw blood out;
So when it all comes down to letting go,
Why do we keep hurting silently?
Excuses and promises made in vain,
Prolonging whatever inevitable pain,
Too stubborn to give up just yet,
Too worn out to keep holding on,
I wonder what we hope to achieve,
What do we ever have to gain?
Running right back into the arms
Of those same old painful songs,
Like we want to shed the tears held back,
Flirting with heartache that we badly need,
Desperately, like the air we breathe;
What a curious thing it is, I think,
To be human and to feel,
I always seem to wonder,
“Why do we?”
~ Shubhangi Srinivasan.
I don’t even know where I was going with this! But I just wonder why we do certain things that, when you think about, seem incredibly stupid. Then again, life is full of mysteries, I guess, and humans and their emotions are only the tip of a very massive iceberg. I hope you liked reading this. Yours truly, The Shubhster.
Quite ponderous. It almost feels like some of these things are instinct chained by societal expectations
