Living in 2019 is both physically and emotionally draining. PHEW!
What with our constant need to hustle on and check all the boxes on our to-do lists, it doesn’t come as a surprise that a majority of us don’t feel motivated enough to power through the task at hand. In fact, a lot of us often drag ourselves just to make it to the weekend, which is honestly kinda’ sad!
So we procrastinate. Even though we have all those amazing ideas in our heads that could be brought to life, we sometimes end up building castles in the air. Why does this happen? What’s stopping us?
I didn’t have a proper answer to this until I came across the very talented Abhishek Negi’s Instagram story that said, “Still thinking about that next thing you want to do? Don’t think; trust me, just do it.” And I can tell you that this is one of the best ways to motivate ourselves because sometimes, taking the leap of faith minus all the overthinking is the solution to staying motivated.
About a month ago, I had no ideas about where this blog was going. I hadn’t written anything in a long time until NaPoWriMo rolled in and I pushed myself to write a poem every single day. A poem a day, for a month, sounds like an easy thing to do, but boy was I wrong!
I had to constantly keep pushing my own limits to publish a poem every day, and I haven’t stopped writing even though NaPoWriMo is now over. It’s like I have this sudden surplus of ideas because I’m constantly thinking about what I could write to make a more positive impact, and I see inspiration in the smallest of things.
So, you know, just in case you’re feeling a little low on motivation today, set a short-term goal for yourself and just get started. You won’t run out of mojo anytime soon after that! It’s a simple, fool-proof way to trick yourself into staying on top of your game.
Get, set, go!
