“Dear Diary,
Sometimes I wonder how life could have been if I had made different choices for myself. I mean, it’s normal, right? Does everybody else do that too? Am I too weird to think about what could have been? Like, is there an alternate universe where the dumber version of myself hasn’t made the most out of the opportunities at her door? Now that I think about it, I have nothing but gratitude for the choices that got me here, and even if I could go back in time, I wouldn’t want to change a thing!”
See, when I thought about how much I would have to leave behind when I moved away from the city I previously lived in, I was so scared. I threw tantrums and I begged my parents to let me stay behind. I knew that in a span of 5 years, this was another one of those times when I had to start over and I hated it.
Luckily for me, this time, the clean slate proved to be a much-needed one, and true to my expectations, ‘Mumbai: The City of Dreams’ lived up to its name and embraced me very quickly. I have discovered so much about myself and about life after I’ve moved here and I wouldn’t change that for the world!
Very often, we miss the opportunities that come our way because we are too scared to step out of our cozy little bubbles. We give it a lot of thought to the point of talking ourselves out of doing the very thing that could be the next step in our lives and then curse our foresight. We are torn about leaving certain things behind for a much better opportunity, or ‘letting this one slide’ until something better comes along.
Let me tell you something— that ‘something better’ that you want to wait for has a mind of its own. You never know if or when it could come your way, and we waste away a good portion of our lives trying to look for it.
Keep taking chances, no matter how big or small they are. Trust me, when you look back at how far you’ve made it just because you never let any opportunity slip away from your hands, you’ll be grateful for it. I know I always took a chance with a lot of things and so far, they’ve all worked out pretty well for me. It’s not about the probability of success, it’s about how much faith you have in yourself.
So, if you have to take a few steps back to leap forward, do it! Make the most of the lemons life throws at you!
Cheerio! Xx
