Day 29: Prioritizing Passion.

For as long as I can remember, I have always chased my passion because I knew I’d have never been happy doing anything else. Yes, I had to succumb to what society convinced me was ‘the ideal career choice’ for a short time, but what is meant to be will be and that wasn’t it. Thankfully, my family has been very supportive of my decision to write for a living because where I come from, it’s not an easy thing to gain support for such an unconventional path.

Ever since I did that, I’ve had younger kids in the family, or friends of my family come to me whenever they were confused about what they should major in. Of course, it’s not a line I wanted to cross with their parents, but I did my best to make sure that didn’t have to end up doing something they weren’t interested in. I don’t think anyone today deserves to go through something like that because there are infinite options and opportunities for everybody.

Life does give everybody a second chance, in case we ever want to start over and follow our passion, no matter how late we do it. Whether it’s about career or love, passion is the one place we need to get things right. It’s not one of those things that you’ll grow to love over time; passion doesn’t work like that. Either there is a passion which eventually fades to comfort and security, or there isn’t.

It’s not exactly the easiest or most fun thing to do either. Contrary to popular belief, doing what you love doesn’t mean you’re not going to be working; if anything, it means that you’re going to work harder because you want to make a name for yourself. Following your passion means working for it, against all odds and sometimes, going against what people tell you.

There isn’t enough you can do when you are passionate about something. If you’ve found what passion means to you, don’t ever lose sight of it. And if you haven’t, it’s not too late. It’s never too late to do something you like in life, so keep looking because you never know when you’re going to find that one thing that will make you feel more alive than ever. Don’t let anything stop you from going after what you want in life.

Chase your passion like you would a sunset.
