No, it’s not about the kind of labels you think, but it is about something you love.
Whenever people ask me what I am, I tell them that I’m a ‘blogger‘, which is true. But somebody once told me that I shouldn’t categorize myself into a small aspect of my work. I should always tell people about what I’m really aiming for. In that sense, I’m not just a blogger, but I’m a ‘writer‘.
Of course, the journey from being a blogger to a published writer is a long one, and I am still walking the road because it’s what I love doing. But it made me think if I am undermining my own work. It made me feel as though I wasn’t giving myself enough credit for the words I put out there, the very words that you’re reading right now.
You see, society may give us all kinds of labels. To them, you might be ‘just a blogger‘ or ‘a writer, but not a very well-known one‘ or even ‘still figuring it out‘. But as long as you understand where you’re headed, as long as you keep the fire burning inside you for the one thing that you love doing the most in life, you’ll never lose sight of where you want to be.
My love for writing has kept me going for as long as I can remember. Around 110 days ago, I took it upon myself to write something every day here, and now it has become a way of life. I feel so empty if I haven’t poured out my thoughts on my site, and what makes it better is that all of you actually like to read these snippets from my life.
I don’t know where I decided to start calling myself a ‘writer‘ instead of just saying that I’m a ‘blogger‘, but I can tell you that doing so has made me feel more in control of my career choices. There’s a certain kind of power that giving yourself credit brings, and it is amazing. I am now more confident about the art that I send out to the world.
So, don’t be afraid to put yourself, or your work out there. Give yourself enough credit where it’s due. And why not? You should give your work the value it deserves because of all the love that you put into it. If you love doing something, then don’t let anything hold you back from doing it. Yes, it’s a huge leap of faith for most of us, but it feels so liberating to be doing something that your heart is in.
Guess you’ll have to take the step and do what you love to find out!
