Forgotten Drafts CH7- ‘The Lone Blossom’.

I came across this draft a couple of weeks ago and I couldn’t find the right time to post it because I kept coming up with something else instead. But today, I decided to finally publish this here because I feel like I can relate to what is written here a lot more than I did back when I started writing it.

In case you’ve only just started following my blog, Forgotten Drafts is a series of drafts that I am no longer working on; it felt like a waste of some good writing to just erase all of these drafts, so I decided to post them here, every once in a while. You can check out all the others here.

This one in particular is titled The Lone Blossom because whenever we think of flowers, we always picture a bouquet or a garden. It’s never just a single flower. In a world that makes you feel like you need to fit in and get along with everyone around you, even if it means that your own voice could be drowned out sometimes, I think it’s important to realize your self-worth. I hope you like reading this one:

Never pick a flower that is thriving.

This is one of the first things we’re all taught as kids when we begin to explore nature. It’s always about not wanting the flower to die out. But I don’t understand when we went from not plucking a single flower because it would die, to not plucking a single flower because just one flower looks kind of lacklustre when you compare it to an entire garden.

enchanted rose

Sure. A single flower and a garden, or a bouquet, for that matter, are two very different things. But both of them are beautiful in their own right. In fact, everybody knows that a single flower that holds meaning is infinitely better than the biggest bouquet of flowers that holds no sentiment behind it. It’s the intent that actually matters.

You know what they say about exploring your options before you arrive at a conclusion? Yeah. That never works. Everybody knows that you’re going to circle back to the first thing you chose, anyway. Because once you set your sights on something that you really want, nothing else ever feels good enough. Nothing feels better when you have something going on in your head. That’s just the way things work.

nothing-to-wear

My point is that while a little competition may be healthy, comparing yourself to 10 different people out there for 10 different things isn’t going to make you feel any better. I am sure that all of them feel the exact same way about you. You have no idea how many people envy the things you can do. Things that are unique to you and you alone.

It’s great if you want to grow and be better at something, or learn something new, even, because there’s always room to grow. But remember that if you were a rose in a bouquet and you were singled out, neither you, nor the bouquet would look any less beautiful than you already are. In many ways, the flower and the bouquet only enhance each other’s beauty.

And you, the lone blossom, are doing great, so far!”
