All-Time Low.

Dear Diary,

I don’t have the motivation to get out of my room, or my bed today. Everything seems to be going downhill, and it keeps getting worse. I’m sure someone else out there might be having a day which is worse than mine, right now. But I doubt I can handle anyone else’s share of pain or sadness at the moment. I need to put an end to my own suffering. But how does one do that? 

Have you ever been through one of those days when there is absolutely nothing wrong with your vision, the weather is clear, and yet the world seems two shades darker and gloomy?

Yeah, it happens to the best of us. Things seem dark and dull. Everything is messed up and, sorry to say this, but the biggest pile of mess is you. So, if you’re planning to start somewhere, you should definitely start working on yourself first- everything else will eventually turn out to be just fine! You should be your top priority.

How does one clean up this mess? My go-to method is escaping into a completely different world- reading books. I feel that it is very necessary to take our minds off whatever is making us feel low at that moment. The more we allow ourselves to drown in pain, the harder it is to resurface. Which is why it is very important to take our minds off of it.

But our brain, the devil that it is, never allows us to completely forget. We tend to overthink to the point of blaming ourselves- and then feeling even worse than what we actually felt! So give that brain some work to do, because ‘An idle mind is the devil’s workshop!

If you feel like crying, let it out. Don’t shut it all in. And then watch a really good rom-com with a tub of ice-cream in hand, and cry some more. Then go to sleep. Shutting feelings inside only intensifies them. It’s always better if you have someone to talk to, to give you some hope- or maybe just a wee bit of support. You may not realize it, but talking things out makes you feel a whole lot better.

Out of everything, don’t forget to love yourself when you’re at your lowest. No other person (except your Mom) can tell you how to lift yourself up when you’re at your worst. Only you can do that. You are so much better than the moping, sad mess that you think you are right now. You have so much potential in you.

Don’t let all of it go unappreciated just because you’re going through a low phase in life. What fun would a roller-coaster be if there were no ups and downs? The supposed ‘Universe‘ maintains its balance. If today is low, tomorrow may be a good day. If you’ve been going through a low phase for quite some time, hang in there- good times will come. Don’t give up!

  1. Sometimes, when I’m feeling sad, I just start writing, and create a world with a fictional character who has the exact same problems as me, and see how he overcomes them. Pretty neat technique to lift your mood. It encompasses both the natural instincts of escape: flight and fight.
    You flee to a new world, but still fight your problems.

    1. Same thing here! It’s a realistic fictional work and like, the character has same problems but she is a much more bolder type. It helps me feel confident when I’m feeling really low.
